What makes FocusNest unique?

FocusNest provides holistic solutions for ADHD and trauma disorders, using an integrative and creative approach to promote mental, physical and spiritual health.

How can I make an appointment?

You can make an appointment by first filling out the Contact Form  . Upon reviewing the email, we will contact you to either say we cannot help or make an appointment for a Consultation Meeting to speak freely for about 30 minutes to see if Drs. van den Brink-El Makkaoui and you can work together on your symptoms.

What is the first step to begin treatment?

The first step is to take the  mandatory Art Therapy Assessment (no prior skills are required) and fill out the Intake Form. The Assessment results which will also contain a Treatment Plan will be communicated to you prior to starting your first session.

How long does a treatment process at FocusNest take?

The duration of the treatment process varies per individual and depends on the specific needs and goals of the client. Some individuals with mild symptoms do 3 months of therapy while others with more severe or complicated symptoms require more than a year of treatment.

What is Art Psychotherapy?

Art psychotherapy uses the creative processes of art-making (ie painting, sculpting, drawing, etc.) to help individuals express and process their emotions following a negative event (ie trauma) or neurological issue (ie ADHD). For example, it can assist someone with depression suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after sexual abuse or help manage anger in a person with ADHD. There's a lot that Art Psychotherapy can help with.

Is trauma therapy right for me or my child?

Our trauma therapy is designed to help children and young adults who suffer from the consequences of traumatic experiences, including divorce, relocation, physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. During a Consultation Meeting we will determine together whether this form of therapy is suitable for you or your child. If Drs. van den Brink cannot help the case, she will make a referral.

Can I get a reimbursement from my health insurer?

While Drs. van den Brink works mostly with private pay, she has worked with health insurance policies too. We recommend that you contact your health insurer to inquire about reimbursement options for ' Alternative or Complimentary Therapy '.

For families in the Netherlands: kindly inquire about a  PGB (or 'personal budget plan') from your municipality and ask to work with Drs. van den Brink-El Makkaoui at FocusNest as your provider.
